BOOK COVER REDESIGN

This conceptual project involved reimagining the cover of John Steinbeck’s Cannery Row with a fresh, distinct approach. The goal was to create a design that stood apart from existing covers while remaining true to the novel’s tone and themes.

The process began with revisiting the book to reconnect with its tone and key narrative elements, focusing on its eccentric characters. Inspired by the recurring motifs of frogs and the infamous “Old Tennis Shoes” whiskey, these elements became the foundation for the cover concept. Through extensive thumbnailing, iterative sketching, and refining the title lettering and illustrations, the final composition was developed to reflect the quirky charm of Cannery Row.

The final design offers a bold reinterpretation that stays true to the tone of the novel while introducing a fresh visual perspective. Custom lettering and carefully chosen imagery work together to create an engaging illustration that reflects the book’s unique atmosphere.
